Recreational vehicles occupy a unique place within the insurance landscape. They’re both vehicle and home, and they have many insurance needs of each. RV insurance helps recreational vehicle owners in Vermont insure these specialized motorhomes.
RV insurance policies are often broken down into three classes, and the policy class needed generally depends on what type of recreational vehicle is being insured:
Owners who need assistance determining what class of policy best suits their recreational vehicle should talk with a knowledgeable insurance agent. A specialized agent will be able to make informed recommendations both on class and coverage selection.
Recreational vehicle policies normally offer multiple coverages in order to meet the diverse protection needs that motorhome owners have. Some of the coverages that a policy, depending on its terms and conditions, might offer are:
Owners who use their recreational vehicle as a long-term residence may also need full-timer coverage.
Most people who own one of the above-mentioned recreational vehicles should have this form of coverage. Vermont requires certain minimum levels of coverage before vehicles can be taken on public roads in the state, and the other protections offered by these policies can help ensure an incident isn’t too financially devastating.
Our business was with the same trusted agent for over 20 years. Mike Bancroft offered to evaluate our policies and see if he could save us some money on both Workmen's Comp and general liability. He did, and in the process even moved us to better coverage. Mike also offers a superb quality of service. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Mike Bancroft has been great to work with. He has assisted with my Business Auto, Tool Coverage, Homeowners and all other types of insurance needs. I wouldn't be surprised if they change their name to Paige, Campbell & Bancroft soon!
Extremely prompt, personable, and professional service! Despite only needing a workers' comp policy for one employee, Paige & Campbell was very receptive and ensured to shop my policy around to ensure I received a great price that was almost half of what another broker quoted me.
There are multiple ways that motorhome owners may be able to save on recreational vehicle insurance.
First, many insurance companies offer several discounts that owners can explore. These range from good-driver discounts and multi-policy discounts to loyalty and claims-free discounts. An insurance agent can explain all of the potential discounts that a particular company offers.
Second, raising deductibles usually lowers a policy’s premiums. This does involve assuming more risk, and should only be done after careful consideration, but the added risk is normally limited and the savings are sometimes substantial. Again, an informed agent can help motorhome owners see whether this strategy is right for them.
Finally, working with an independent agent makes it easy to compare policies from multiple insurance companies. With quotes from several insurers to compare, owners can easily see what company has the best combination of coverage and price.
The vast majority of recreational vehicle policies make coverage for personal belongings available if owners need it, but not all owners need such protection.
Before selecting this coverage, owners should check their homeowners, condo or renters insurance policy to see what personal property protections the policy affords. If the policy offers “worldwide coverage” for personal belongings, additional coverage through a recreational vehicle policy could be unnecessary. If not such coverage is offered through a homeowners policy, coverage for personal belongings probably does need to be included in a recreational vehicle policy.
